Main Job Purpose:
* The performance and conduct of work appropriate to the position of a Paralegal;
* Assisting in the achievement of the Company’s operational objectives;
* Reporting to Department Head (Director) and Team Leader;
* Providing appropriate advice and guidance to the Department Head (Director) and Team Leader on key issues and proffer solutions;
* Complying with all of the Company’s procedures;
* Ensure full compliance with the Company’s policies and procedures in respect of Risk Management.
Key Tasks and Functions:
* Quality & Compliance:
* Ensure compliance with the Company’s Quality Policy, Systems, Procedures and the Company Manual;
* Promote quality at all levels of performance and services within the Company;
* Ensure personal compliance with the SRA Handbook and Code of Conduct 2011;
* Ensure personal compliance with the current version of The Solicitors’ Regulation Authority Solicitors’ Accounts Rules 2011;
* Ensure personal compliance with the post holders obligations as defined by the Data Protection Act;
* Working to the Legal Aid Agency's SQM quality standard.
* Conduct of Work:
* Carry out the specific tasks allocated by the Department Head (Director) / Team Leader as appropriate;
* Produce reports, and advice, whether written or verbal to the Department Head (Director) / Team Leader as may be required;
* Seek advice and guidance from the Team Leader on matters that cause concern or uncertainty relating to the work being performed;
* Ensure that any and all advice provided is accurate, correct and produced in a timely manner as required by the objectives set for the completion of each task;
* Prioritize work on a daily basis ensuring that key tasks or requests for urgent work are dealt with in a timely fashion;
* Liaise with the relevant Director / Fee Earner on a regular daily basis so as to keep up-to-date with demands from the Fee Earner and others;
* Ensure that post-in is dealt with as a priority and placed on the matter file, and where urgent post is apparent, that this is brought to the attention of the recipient;
* Ensure that all files for which you are responsible for are maintained in a tidy fashion in line with the Firm’s standards;
* Use the LEAP system to open new matter files, ensuring that all relevant documents are sent to the client, and that Risk Assessment documents are placed on the file;
* Conduct identity and conflict checks and log results on LEAP;
* Liaise as directed with all parties who may have an interest in the matter, i.e. the client, the other side, solicitors, financial institutions, courts, counsel, experts, land registry, LSC, police, social services, etc.;
* Ensure that the relevant Director / Fee Earner is made aware of any changes in the status of the matter that comes to the attention of the Paralegal;
* Perform any other duties as required by the Firm from time to time;
* Manage reporting to the LAA on the CCMS system.
Training and Development:
* Keep up-to-date with changes in legislation and procedures as required for the satisfactory completion of all tasks allocated.
Personal Requirements:
* Personally highly motivated;

* Experience preferred but not essential;
* Proven planning skills and abilities;
* Proven problem solving and opportunist skills.
