Unit B includes several specialities with a variety of specialist that are leads in their respective fields. The service provide 24hr Theatre cover for emergencies along with elective Hepato-pancreato-biliary Surgery and Renal surgery.
We are pioneers in the use of new technologies and innovative techniques with a specific development program for robotic surgery that is one of the most significant in the country. The Unit is a centre of excellence with one of the highest surgical volumes in Hepatobiliary surgery in United Kingdom.
We are one of the most important centres for renal transplant in the north west with life related transplants, donor kidney transplants and a participation in a national program for kidney donation (pool donation)

• Daily cleaning of the theatre area, Scrub Room and Exit Rooms including all furniture, fittings and specialised equipment.
• Daily cleaning of X-ray gowns, checking gowns still adhere to health and safety standards, deal appropriately with gowns not up to standards.
• Monitor and maintain stock levels of materials and equipment in each theatre area.
• Prepare packs, set up trolleys, setup theatres for scrub team. Ordering of CSSD, TSSU, stores and instruments for the lists the following day.
• Act as circulating assistant during operative procedures. Deal appropriately with specimens and measurement of urine and blood loss.
• Set up theatre for the following day’s list, ensuring instruments, trays etc are available, recording shortages to ensure smooth running of list.
• Receive and identify patients for clinical/operative procedures and support. them whilst in the Anaesthetic Room prior to surgery.
• Ensure all relevant information is recorded on the computerised patient information sheet.
• Complete any documentation necessary for nursing records.
• Promote and maintain safety and security of the environment by adhering to theatre protocols and policies at all times. Ensure patients dignity and religious/cultural beliefs are respected at all times. Act as patients advocate whilst in the theatre department.
