Job Title: Strategic Planner

Role Purpose:
I am currently working with one of my clients who are a well-established planning consultancy, seeking a talented Strategic Planner or Senior Planner to join their Strategic Planning team based in their London office. In this role, you will contribute to a wide variety of planning projects, managing projects of various sizes and complexities, and providing day-to-day support in the production of documents and briefings. You will also play an active role in driving client relationships, supporting project delivery, and coordinating teams for major residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
1. Project Management & Delivery:
Organise and manage your time within the parameters set by the Director.
Establish project briefs from the Project Manager and oversee their execution.
Manage and coordinate teams involved in the planning process.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation, submission, and negotiation of planning applications.
Produce planning statements, policy representations, and assist with planning appeals.
Review planning histories, policies, and guidance to support decision-making processes.
Undertake site visits, site appraisals, and research, ensuring effective planning strategies are in place.
Conduct research and analysis of political, demographic, and local areas to inform planning decisions.
2. Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, Local Authorities, and other consultants.
Ensure effective communication and stakeholder engagement throughout the project life cycle.
Keep Directors, Associates, and Senior Planners informed of project progress through regular meetings and updates.
3. Policy & Legal Compliance:
Support the preparation and submission of planning applications in line with Local Development Frameworks and Development Management Systems.
Assist in policy advocacy, including planning appeal assistance and policy representation.
Maintain planning programmes, planning condition monitoring schedules, stakeholder engagement strategies, and project documentation.
Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in a planning-related role, ideally with experience in strategic planning.
Strong knowledge of planning policy, development management, and planning application processes.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities.
Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines.
Strong research, analytical, and report-writing skills.
Familiarity with the Local Development Framework and Development Management System is desirable.
An understanding of the political, demographic, and social factors affecting planning in various areas.
