The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Looked After Children will support all activities to ensure the Trust meets its safeguarding responsibilities regarding Looked After children, their families and carers.
The post holder will provide Trust based leadership and assurance across the field of children’s safeguarding. Work closely with other named and designated professionals both locally and across the Greater Manchester footprint.
The post holder will be the Named Nurse for safeguarding looked after children, based within the Trust, working within a multi-professional arena and providing highly developed specialist knowledge on child safeguarding issues.
Responsibilities
1. Support all activities necessary to ensure that PCFT meets its responsibilities for safeguarding looked after children.
2. The post holder will enable the Trust and its workforce to comply with statutory and mandatory safeguarding frameworks and guidelines.
3. The post holder will be a source of highly specialised knowledge at Board and practice level.
4. Work with other named, specialist and designated professionals to plan and develop a strategy for safeguarding children.
5. The post holder will line manage Safeguarding Families Specialist Practitioners.
6. The post holder will support the safeguarding lead in implementing the safeguarding children and Think Family agenda.
7. The post holder will provide supervision within the Safeguarding Team and to other health professionals, as required.
8. The post holder will develop and maintain excellent relationships with other agencies, overcoming barriers and professional challenge to improve outcomes for looked after children, their families and carers.
9. Communicate a range of highly complex, sensitive and contentious topics to a range of professionals in varying situations.
10. Analyse highly complex situations and provide judgements as to a range of options, deciding on best action to ensure the optimum outcome for children, their families and carers.
11. Liaise closely with mental health services.
12. Develop and facilitate safeguarding training, including children, looked after children, adults and Prevent.
13. Promote the work of the Local Borough Safeguarding Children Partnerships and Corporate Parenting Boards across the Trust footprint and actively participate in sub groups as a health representative.
14. Undertake individual management review as part of Safeguarding Children Reviews and participate in the implementation of recommendations.
15. Maintain the safeguarding children supervision system and provide supervision to colleagues as required.
16. Have an in-depth knowledge of legislation and statutory requirements regarding safeguarding practice.
17. Respond to changes or amendments to legislation and statutory guidance and disseminate as required.
18. Development of service specifications and standards for safeguarding practice.
19. Work closely with the Named Professional Safeguarding Adults and Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children to provide cross cover when required.
20. Support and advise colleagues on the clinical assessment and care of children where there are safeguarding concerns.
21. Be able to articulate to colleagues their role and remit and clinical professional accountability.
22. Support and advise professionals on the management of all forms of child abuse including relevant legal frameworks and documentation.
23. Assess and evaluate written reports for court, police statements and complex professional meetings and case conferences as required.
24. Support staff if they must attend court or give a police statement.
25. Provide advice and signposting to other professionals about legal processes, key research and policy documents.
26. Work closely with other safeguarding colleagues across the Trust and health economy.
27. Contribute to the PCFT safeguarding work plan and associated work streams.
28. Support the Head of Safeguarding to ensure high levels of assurance.
