The intern will work with Remake, a community reuse charity, to improve reuse levels at the local HWRC (Household Waste Recycling Centre). They will conduct data analysis and engage with stakeholders to assess and improve the quality of public donations, build an understanding of the environmental and social impact of the Reuse Container, and analyse how the container aligns with net-zero and circular economy policies. Findings will support Remake’s mission and guide future engagement strategies for reuse organisations across Scotland.

* Working hours: full-time, flexible
* Location: Remake Unit 2 Muthill Road Crieff PH7 4HQ, plus some site work at Crieff Recycling Centre and flexibility for home working.
* Duration: 12 weeks

The Host Organisation
Remake is a community reuse charity and social enterprise based in Crieff. We are passionate about supporting our community to live more sustainably through reuse & repair. Our primary aim is to reduce the amount of waste generated within our community and support people and organisations to live and operate more sustainably. We achieve our mission by running a Reuse Hub which diverts over 42,000KG from landfill each year and saves approximately 23,712 of Co2 pollution – as much as having 3,900 cars off the road annually! The items we save from landfill include furniture, tools, textiles, and craft supplies, and everything we save is then reused within our community.
The Role
This project will focus on improving reuse levels within our rural community via Remake’s Reuse Container at our local HWRC. While we have had the container since 2019, over the past year we have seen a significant increase in the quantity of donations but a huge decline in the quality of items received at the site. In recent months, between 80-90% of items have been unsuitable for reuse and the staff/volunteer time involved with processing donations has increased as a result. The support being offered by our Local Authority’s Waste Team has also declined.
The intern project will:
* Undertake data analysis and stakeholder consultations to help us better understand the general public and the Local Authority relationship with and understanding of the container and how it relates to individual & local authority priorities.
* Gather demonstrable evidence of the environmental and social impact delivered by the reuse container (on-site stakeholder engagement at HWRC required for some of this work).
* Develop a clear understanding of the relevance of reuse containers in supporting council and Scottish Government policy relating to net-zero, circular economy, and waste route map.
* Produce a project report, based on the findings, delivering a plan to enable us and other reuse organisations to improve stakeholder engagement with HWRC containers in the future.
The Candidate
* A commitment to Remake’s environmental aims and ethos.
* Good awareness and understanding of the environmental crisis and an ability to communicate this to the public.
* Experience of project management, service development, monitoring and evaluation.
* Experience of working in a proactive and self-motivated manner.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Good time-keeping and reliability.
* Clean driving licence & own transport.
* Excellent IT skills & experience of report writing.
* Ability to participate in manual handling & heavy lifting (the physical aspects of the role are a requirement, as the post holder will need to experience the process of working in our Reuse Hub and emptying the container to understand the challenges we experience).
* Environmental Management Degree or similar.
* Knowledge of related UK and Scottish Government policies.
* Experience of stakeholder consultation/engagement.
