Lancaster City Council are looking to appoint an energetic and motivated individual to join the Vehicle Maintenance team within Environment & Place to contribute to making our fleet as well maintained as possible. The individual will need to be hard working, take pride within their work and have a passion for making improvements. We have already launched several exciting initiatives which we know will contribute significantly to the future ambitions of the Council. These include the use of electric vehicles, the refurbishment of refuse collection vehicles, taking on private work and MOTs. To help support our exciting plans for the future, we are seeking a highly motivated and driven Motor Vehicle Technician to work within Lancaster City Council’s Vehicle Maintenance Unit to deliver a first-class service to both the council and private customers. Based at the White Lund Depot in Morecambe, this post has the responsibility for looking after and maintaining the council’s fleet, so they remain in a good serviceable condition for front-line services. Your new role As a Motor Vehicle Technician working within the Vehicle Maintenance Unit, you will be maintaining the Vehicles and equipment used by front line services that are essential to the upkeep of the district and the health and wellbeing of its residents. The Vehicle Maintenance Unit team also carry out over 600 Taxi tests a year, plus private servicing repairs and MOTs. We are looking to recruit a motivated individual who will be able to work as part of a team, whilst using their own initiative to get the job done. This post is a permanent position. Based at the Vehicle Maintenance Unit at the White Lund Depot you will be working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday on a shift pattern basis. Current shift patterns are Monday to Thursday 07:00-15:00 and 08:30-16:30 and Friday 07:00-14:30 and 08:30-16:00. Shift patterns may be adjusted in the future in accordance with the working practices and requirements of the service. You will also be required to provide out of hours vehicle breakdown cover, which will include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays, on a shift rota basis. What you need to succeed For this role, it is desirable you have a NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent). Ideally you should have previous experience in a similar role and experience of vehicle electrics, hydraulic and pneumatic systems would be desirable. You must be a creative thinker who can deliver at a pace and think outside the box. You must be able to work on a shift rota basis, if necessary, in accordance with the needs of the service. You may be required to undertake Standby duties to cover out of hours work. The successful applicant will be subject to a basic clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service. A full current UK driving licence is essential. As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees driving licence data.
