Job Description
You will work as a Substance Misuse Practitioner Apprentice in our Surrey Young Persons Substance Misuse Service. The Surrey Young Person’s Substance Misuse service (SYPSMS) offers one-to-one support to young people and their families, a 24 hour help line, counselling and pharmacological support, as part of a tailored recovery approach for young people aged 11 to 25-years-old. Using a harm reduction approach, which has the service user at the heart of what we do, we can provide one-off targeted education and harm reduction sessions, as well more specialist interventions for those who require a greater level of support.
Alongside your learning and development within the work place, you will be completing the Level 3 Youth Support Worker apprenticeship. This apprenticeship will develop knowledge, skills and behaviours in how to deliver supporting role with young people aged 11-25 to promote their personal, social and educational development. Youth support work provides a holistically supportive, positive professional relationship with young people, ensuring the relationship is routed in young people’s own journey and led by them. It creates opportunities for young people to develop their voice and views and creates opportunities to learn about themselves and society using informal education methods within the context of the professional relationship
As a Substance Misuse Practitioner Apprentice you will develop your knowledge and skills with understanding why Young People use substances and the skills to engaged with the young people, parents and careers .

Qualifications
* Good levels of literacy and numeracy evidenced by GCSEs in Math's and English at grade 4/C or higher
Essential Criteria
* Ability to demonstrate a desire to work with young people
* Ability to demonstrate a desire to understand the responsibilities regarding safeguarding young people (full training will be provided).
* Excellent engagement skills, to be able to motivate young people.
* Is able to communicate effectively with team members, professionals and young people.
* Good organisational skills (for self and others).
* Work effectively in a team.
* To be able to adopt a flexible approach to all aspects of work including managing the role and off the job learning.
* Problem solving and a “can do” attitude
* Good ICT skills

* Fixed term role until 31.03.2025
This post will involve travel around Surrey on a daily basis, you will therefore need to have use of a vehicle, with an up-to-date driving licence, MOT and Business Insurance. There will also be occasional travel around the UK
Some flexible working will be required, including working some weekends and evenings when necessary in order to meet the needs of the client group.
