About the role
Working within the GLA’s climate adaptation team as part of the London Climate Ready Partnership you’ll lead the coordination of activities of the recently launched UK Climate Adaptation Hub. This exciting new project is a partnership between leading academic institutions, climate adaptation networks, and technical experts. The project has been funded by DEFRA and the UK Research Institute and is focused on delivering transformative solutions to help the UK become more resilient to climate impacts. The Hub covers the whole of the UK across all 4 devolved nations; this role is to run the England region activities, and you’ll be working in partnership with Sustainability West Midlands to do this. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a network of organisations who will work with national, regional, and local policymakers to develop solutions that will safeguard communities, nature, and our economy.
Principal accountabilities
1. Manage the day-to-day activities and workplan of the England spoke of the UK wide Hub – liaising closely with the Hub centre manager based at Kings College London and working with Sustainability West Midlands who will support delivery in England.
2. Establish effective administrative systems for managing the finance, resources, reporting requirements, and data as part of the Hub partner activities and in accordance with the Greater London Authority’s policies and Code of Ethics and Standards.
3. Liaise with the England spoke’s academic co-lead to ensure research objectives of local activities are effectively integrated into the work.
4. Liaise with other Hub partners on the Hub engagement strategy and provide input into the creation of a climate adaptation decision support tool.
5. Support the other devolved nation partners to help develop and deliver their local activities.
6. Align the activities and outputs of the Hub with the GLA’s platforms (e.g. institutional websites) and existing activities and partnerships - primarily the London Climate Ready Partnership.
7. Organise and facilitate workshops (or sets of activities) to advance the objectives of the Hub, in collaboration with activity co-leads and consistent with any Hub-wide approaches the workshops will focus on the following themes:
* Identifying barriers to adaptation, including knowledge gaps
* Weather Resilience Training Programmes
* Leadership training on systems thinking
* Co-designing a knowledge portal
* Launching a flexible research fund
1. Ensure learnings and outcomes from local Hub activities are shared across the partner network by attending meetings and integrating learning into Hub outputs and outcomes.
2. Contribute to joint Hub publications (support in accessing data/findings; contributing writing tasks, and/or providing critical review)
3. Identify, engage and manage new and existing stakeholders, networks, and partnerships at a regional and national level to contribute to the overall objectives of the hub.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Technical requirements/experience/qualifications
1. Experience of working in partnership with academic institutions, public sector agencies, voluntary and community groups, and the private sector.
2. In-depth understanding of the issues that can impact climate adaptation in the UK, as defined in the London Environment Strategy, UK Climate Change Risk Assessment (3), and Climate Change Committee climate adaptation progress reports.
3. Project management skills and experience, and ability to ensure initiatives are delivered to agreed targets and timescales.
4. Strong research, analytical, and written skills and demonstrable ability to utilise these to assess, interpret, and present ideas, data, and information.
5. Understanding of, and a commitment to, equality of opportunity and serving diverse communities, and the ability to apply this in a projects role.
