The Role
As part of a multi-disciplinary/agency team, the post holder will manage a defined caseload, using evidence based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. Within the role you will deliver comprehensive, highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy services to clients with a variety of communication difficulties and/or eating/drinking/swallowing difficulties. This service will be delivered in a variety of settings. The post holder is expected to have high level clinical skills, knowledge and experience across a broad spectrum of complex diagnoses and aetiologies. Duties and location may vary depending on the client group/aspect and demands of the service/level of experience.

What we'll need you to bring
* Registered Speech and Language Therapist with valid HCPC Registration.
* Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level.
* Post graduate expertise within speciality/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safely, effectively and efficiently.
* Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality.
* Advanced specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality.
* Evidence of application of advanced practice skills in speciality and applying clinical judgement.
* Evidence of further developed knowledge and experience in management and/or leadership.
* Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualifications.
* The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate and influence others and work using own initiative.
* Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills and effective time management skills.
* Working knowledge of basic information technology.
* Full driving licence holder.
It would be great if you also have
* Has professional knowledge as evidenced by 1st degree level qualification or equivalent
* Evidence of attendance on specialist short courses and advanced training up to Masters level or equivalent in particular clinical specialist areas
* Member of RCSLT
* Accredited training in Dysphagia for Children
* Relevant post graduate experience in C&YP services
* Experience of working with Pre 5 Children with Eating, Drinking and Swallowing problems
* Highly specialist knowledge and extensive clinical skills which are underpinned by current evidence base, acquired through in depth experience and theoretical study of a broad range of conditions
* Develops own knowledge base to as evidenced by attendance at SIGs, journal clubs, review of current literature
* Knowledge of and adherence to national and local clinical guidelines and policies
* Knowledge of a broad range of conditions which may cause swallowing problems in neonates and young children
* Identifies and proposes the development of local clinical guidelines / procedures / policies in own highly specialist area
* Identifies areas for own personal / professional development including specific objectives relating to clinical specialism evidenced by Personal Development Plan / Professional Portfolio
* Able to analyse and use data to inform service delivery

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
