Role Description
Responsible for the day-to-day management of all procurement functions at SSTL to ensure the success of project delivery, encompassing team development & leadership, processes & policies and continuous improvement initiatives. The role holder shall be heavily focused on operational (project) delivery whilst line managing 3 project (direct) buyers and 2 non-project (indirect) buyers.
Key Tasks
1. Act as the business focal point for all Project related satellite Electrical, Mechanical and services procurement.
2. Highlight key open procurement issues & actions at the monthly project reviews. Ensure the facts for project issues are gathered, formally recorded and presented.
3. Ensure team performance is measured via appropriate KPI’s. Track and report key metrics to reduce cost and improve effectiveness.
4. Ensure workload planning is up to date and accurate for open projects and ensure workload planning for bids is based on a standard costing model.
5. Work with the Head of Supply Chain to develop and implement a clearly defined and companywide purchasing strategy (including supplier selection & continued evaluation) seeking agreement from key stakeholders.
6. Lead and develop the Procurement team members.
7. Establish good working relationships with key internal stakeholders such as the Project Manufacturing Engineers (PME’s), Project Managers (PM’s) and Finance.
8. Manage the procurement governance process across the business ensuring policy compliance and support internal and external audits for the Supply Chain Team. Ensure the Airbus Internal Controls framework is fully implemented within procurement processes.
9. Challenge, enhance and standardise existing procurement practices to ensure conformity of approach, generate economies of scale and deliver improved value for money.
10. Lead, support and manage the tendering process for large strategic (central stock) purchases.
11. Build excellent supplier relationship management capability within the team and through continuous business improvement.
12. Support the roll out of a new ERP system as a procurement subject matter expert.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
1. Excellent people management skills with a minimum of 5 years line management experience. Able to motivate individuals and lead the team.
2. Credibility and experience at a senior level, with the ability to interact at all levels in the business.
3. Highly driven and results orientated, with ability to deliver under pressure.
4. Good inter-personal skills: able to communicate clearly and effectively, and influence and persuade others.
5. Creative thinker with ability to think ‘outside the box’.
6. Highly developed understanding of contractual/programmatic risk coupled with a pragmatic approach to its mitigation.
7. Able to provide regular feedback and hold difficult conversations.
8. Background in procurement strategy.
9. Ability to build informal authority and influence key decision makers.
10. Confidence to manage budgets and undertake financial forecasting.
11. Self-motivated and proactive, enjoy working under pressure.
12. Comfortable with complexity and ambiguity and an appetite to address tough commercial challenges.
13. Professionally recognised purchasing qualification (MCIPS) is preferable.
14. SC clearance may be required.

The role is based in our Head Office in Guildford.
