THE DEPARTMENT
Giggleswick Economics and Business School currently has three teachers who deliver A levels in Edexcel Economics and Business plus the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business, which is equivalent to two A Levels. Both Economics and Business are popular A Level subjects and attract 12+ pupils per year.
In recent years we have enjoyed some excellent results in Economics where we have achieved over 80% A*-B. Several pupils in the last two years have chosen to write about an issue in Economics or their EPQs and we have pupils who enter Academic Essay Prizes such as the IOA (Institute of Economic Affairs) and the John Locke Essay Prize. Super curricular enterprise bespoke bees and honey and is also part of the curriculum and open to all students.
We introduced the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business six years ago and this has proven hugely successful. Last year, 10 of the 14 candidates scored D*D* - the equivalent of two A* grades at A Level. As part of the BTEC we enjoy links with local businesses.
