We are looking for an experienced Service Manager to join our established team based in Borehamwood. As an experienced Workshop Manager, you will oversee daily operations within our busy HGV, Vehicle & Plant workshop. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a productive and safe working environment.
Responsibilities
1. Supervise and coordinate the activities of workshop staff to ensure efficient workflow.
2. Maintain schematics and documentation related to equipment repairs and assembly processes.
3. Oversee workshop Health & Safety policies and practices.
4. Perform equipment repairs and maintenance as needed, utilising mechanical knowledge effectively.
5. Train and mentor staff on best practices for equipment handling and maintenance.
6. Ensure the workshop is organised, clean, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
7. Maintain up to date records of machinery servicing & repairs, keep stock levels correct and managed.
8. Manage the workflow process for all activities in the workshop environment.
9. Be cost aware, ensuring the repairs are justified and required, repair/replace/renew.
10. Coordinate defect reporting to third party or internal engineers.
11. Check over jobs completed by engineers.
12. Recharge clients if necessary.
13. Order parts for the service team to optimise production.
14. Outsource to third-party engineers where necessary.
15. Book breakdowns out to relevant engineers.
16. Check over and complete jobs on plant module.
17. Apply potential recharges and bill back to the contract.
18. Monitor and make judgments on consolidating spends.
19. Analyse data for supplier performance.
20. Approve new supplier setups.
21. Carry out audits on third party repairers & part suppliers.
22. Check over newly purchased plant & HGV’s to ensure all is in good order & familiarization of new functions.
23. Manage workshop/mobile engineers to ensure utilisation of OCU owned equipment.
24. Liaise with OCU compliance manager regarding services/inspections that may not be carried out due to waiting on repairs.
25. Inform compliance manager when assets are out of repair if they are due inspections/services so they can be booked in.
26. When assets are available and ready for hire, inform hiredesk to see if they can be utilised out on site.
27. Set KPI’s on downtime, monitor monthly.
Skills & Experience
1. Proven experience in Plant and Transport Management.
2. Strong knowledge of mechanical and technical aspects of plant machinery and transport vehicles.
3. Familiarity with UK transport legislation and compliance requirements.
4. Strong leadership and team management skills.
5. Budgeting and financial management experience.
6. Proficiency in computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar software.
Desirable:
1. NVQ Level 3 or above in Engineering or Transport Management.
2. CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
3. Experience in logistics and route optimisation.
4. HGV driving licence.
