About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Engineer to join the Regional Civils Team in Plymouth.
Role purpose
* To support Balfour Beatty, deliver the project in accordance with customer and stakeholder requirements and commitments, including verification activities to demonstrate compliance against Balfour Beatty requirements, external accreditations and industry good practice.
* To support the co-ordination, submission, compliance and management of all assurance activities and the resolution of assurance related issues. To ensure implementation of procedures including submissions from the supply chain and establishing test and inspection plans for delivery of the works.
This position offers flexibility in working hours, with the possibility of reduced hours to accommodate individual needs.
What you'll be doing
* Support the Quality Manager in ensuring that LTQR's are completed.
* Ensure that NCR's and defects are closed out in accordance with procedure.
* Support and coordinate project teams in developing the quality plans / inspection & test plans. Ensure they are being followed and that requirements are being met, and review those from the supply chain.
* Coach and assist delivery teams in achieving the required deliverables, and managing issues as required, also providing Quality advice to our supply chain where appropriate.
* Use existing systems to establish sample and benchmark plans to be established and agreed with customers and supply chain.
* Implement and use the appropriate digital systems to monitor the performance of quality planning / production of quality deliverables / managing of issues against targets.
* By using the principles of quality assurance, and where appropriate technical integrity, ensure the customer requirements are clearly understood and that quality control mechanisms are in place that provide assurance that the asset and/or service delivers as designed/required.
* Coordinate project team in collating and delivering handover records as per customer requirements, on time.
* Overseeing the maintenance of the Business Management System ensuring it reflects the latest project requirements, supporting delivery teams as required.
* Implementation of the annual audit programme, carrying out local and supplier audits in line with its objectives, and supporting contracts with BB and external certification audits.
* Coordinate with others to produce project and/or business quality deliverables as required.
* Support the development of either project or business stream quality strategies and plans and the delivery and implementation of measurement frameworks, programmes and actions across the scope of services and full project lifecycle.
* Assist in training, coaching and developing quality skills in business / project streams, including sharing lessons learned.
* Support the establishment of a continual improvement culture.
* Support the undertaking of specific investigations and/or reporting on quality related issues as required.
* Support the use of appropriate digital toolset to support the project governance and quality assurance/ measures on the project, including training of those tools.
* Work towards gaining the Chartered member grade of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI).

Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experiences are essential:
* Experience in a quality role, ideally from a nuclear licensed background or heavily regulated site.
* An understanding and commitment to Quality Management.
* Prior Quality experience and/or relevant operational / technical experience to meet industry sector demands.
* Level 4+ Qualification in Quality, Engineering, Construction or Manufacturing (relevant industry).
* Has an enquiring and questioning approach to audit work and experience in managing accreditation audits.
* Experience in driving business improvement and leading change within a business.
* Has an ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts.
* Can work to plans, programmes and budgets.
* Pays attention to detail and sees things through to completion.
* Is good at building relationships and can influence effectively.
* Can deliver reports orally and written in an objective manner.
* Ability to challenge existing methods and ways of thinking.
* Able to work within a multi-discipline team.
* Fully proficient in modern office computer systems and technology e.g. Office 365.
* A CQI Practitioner and working towards Chartered status.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
* ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor trained.
* Awareness of sector specific certifications and their requirements.
* Experience in using Digital Progressive Assurance systems / Electronic Forms.
* Operational experience in construction or asset management.
