This is a well-established and supportive Adult Social Care Team based at Town Hall, Weston- super- Mare with hybrid working. The team covers Weston, Worle areas and surrounding villages. In this role, you will; work within key legislative frameworks including the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Mental Health Act 1983, you will make defensible decisions in partnership with people with care and support needs, supporting them to take positive risks in order to promote and balance their independence, safety and wellbeing. As a Social Worker you will be undertaking Care Act Assessments, and co-producing care and support plans with individuals, identifying their strengths and assets to determine person-centred outcomes. You will undertake Mental Capacity Assessments and be involved in Best Interest Decision making. You will hold a manageable caseload and will have shared responsibility for coordinating safeguarding enquiries in a person-centred way. You will use your social work knowledge, skills and values to promote the rights and choices of people with care and support needs. You will work in close partnership with people with care and support needs, their families, carers and a range of multi-agency partners to achieve desired and eligible outcomes. This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Work Style At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration. About You We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Social Work, and who possesses the following skills and experience: Essential Criteria: Qualifications A relevant professional qualification (DipSW, CSS, CQSW, Degree in Social Work). Current professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Knowledge & Experience Demonstrable knowledge of at least two social work skill areas. Specialist knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and general social care legislation. Analytical skills to assess individual and social situations, including decision-making in complex or uncertain scenarios. Effective communication skills (e.g., telephone, report writing). Flexibility to meet short-notice requests and changing demands. Initiative and self-reliance in delivering tasks. Commitment to forming positive relationships with service users and agencies. Willingness to work outside normal hours and travel as required. Desirable Criteria: Commitment to personal and professional development, including utilising training opportunities. Experience (voluntary or paid) in counselling, advising, or helping people.
