Serco have an exciting opportunity within our Maritime division for a Programme Planner to join our team based at HMNB Portsmouth on a hybrid basis.
This position is essential to support the strategic planning, execution, and coordination of multiple Projects and Workstreams. It provides vital planning capabilities, enabling the effective monitoring, reporting, and adaptation of project schedules in line with the overall programme strategy. This is a critical role in driving the detailed planning and scheduling efforts for various projects and workstreams within the Maritime DMS-NG programme. The position of Programme Planner involves developing, maintaining, and managing integrated project schedules, ensuring that all activities are aligned with project objectives and timelines to achieve successful programme delivery.
Main Accountabilities:
Planning and Scheduling:
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, ensuring alignment with programme objectives.
- Maintain a master schedule that integrates individual workstream plans and identifies dependencies and critical path.
- Use planning tools including Microsoft Project to create Gantt charts and manage timelines.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Provide timely and accurate updates on project status, highlighting schedule deviations and risks.
- Maintain and manage all planning-related documentation, including RAID logs and action logs.
- Facilitate regular schedule reviews to ensure the project plan remains relevant and achievable.
Risk and Issue Management:
- Identify potential scheduling risks and issues, developing mitigation strategies to minimise impact.
- Escalate significant risks and issues to the Programme Manager when necessary.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
- Engage with stakeholders to ensure clarity on planning activities and align expectations.
- Facilitate planning workshops and discussions to gather input and validate project timelines.
Process Improvement and Innovation:
- Continuously seek ways to enhance the planning process, driving efficiency and effectiveness.
- Implement best practices in project planning and scheduling across the PMO function.
Training and Capability Building:
- Support the development of planning capabilities within the team, coaching team members on scheduling tools and techniques.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the PMO team.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Proven relevant experience working on complex projects and programmes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project for planning and scheduling.
- Strong analytical and organisational skills with a detail-oriented mindset.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Experience with process mapping tools like Microsoft Visio.
- Knowledge of reporting tools like Power BI to support data-driven decision-making is desirable.
