Location: HS Marston Aerospace Ltd - Wolverhampton Title: Stress Engineer Labour grade: TBC Position summary: HS Marston has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious early career Stress Engineer to join our Engineering Department. The company is developing the next generation of high performance and unique innovative heat exchangers. Significant emphasis will be placed on simulation and as such HS Marston is looking for someone with good understanding of solid mechanics, FE Analysis and with experience in using VBA and Python. You should have industrial experience in a related field and a natural curiosity and eagerness to solve complex engineering problems related to product design and analysis. This role may have an opportunity to work in other functions e.g., Thermal Analysis and Design. Responsibilities: Responsible to deliver all stress/structural milestones within the project teams, including: Prediction of the mechanical behavior of components and sub-systems considering all relevant failure mechanisms (e.g., proof, ultimate, fatigue (low and high cycle), creep, vibration etc.) and contributing factors (thermal induced loads, residual stresses, inherent manufacturing anomalies, corrosion, extreme operating conditions etc.). Support design optimization to meet customer requirements (weight, design space, cost, life) and ensure product safety and integrity Support preliminary and detailed design stages of the project. Deliver stress documentation to support design review process and certification Perform structural analysis utilizing classical hand calculations as well as finite element analysis methods to demonstrate structural integrity, influence and optimize product design (especially aerospace heat exchangers and fluid management systems), including static and dynamic analysis, thermal fatigue, damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modelling. Contribute to improve the stress capability within the team, use of automation and scripting to improve the stress analysis workflow, developing and improving processes, methods and tools. Minimum Requirements: Education – Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline Experience – 1-5 years’ experience in stress analysis in Aerospace/Automotive domains preferred but not compulsory. Desirable experience in ANSYS, VBA and Python, robust design, thermal analysis, optimization methods Other Skills – Strong analytical skills, good communication (verbal/ written) with the ability to work independently as well as in a team. Experience in using CAD packages such as Siemens NX and/or other commercial CAD tools would be beneficial. This position may involve access to export-controlled information and hardware where an export license would be required for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
