Job overview
A rare opportunity has arisen to join our nationally renowned Cancer Late-Effects service. It is increasingly recognized that patients who have undergone cancer treatments can experience a wide range of later presenting effects that impact their lives and wellbeing.
This position is within a small nurse-led team that works autonomously with excellent consultant staff support. It provides great scope and opportunity to develop advanced nursing skills in direct patient care in nurse-led clinics and patient liaison with various stakeholders both internally at UCLH and externally.
The service is part of the renowned cancer nursing service at UCLH, providing professional development both in-job and through postgraduate pathways. You will have the opportunity to attend national and international conferences.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide effective clinical and strategic leadership for the Late Effects Clinical Nurse Specialist service, ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the center of care delivery. Responsibilities include coordinating care, monitoring expenditure, ensuring quality of clinical support and environmental services, and managing specialist nursing staff. The post holder will also be accountable for the development and performance management of CNS’s within their team to enable delivery of the trust nursing and midwifery strategy.
The Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist is integral to providing a high-quality service for patients under the care of the Late Effects service. A collaborative approach with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) is essential, working across professional and organizational boundaries to provide comprehensive patient-focused service.
The post holder will engage with external stakeholders and collaborate with Late Effects services in other organizations to develop the best possible care for patients.
Person specification
Knowledge & Qualifications
* Registered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
* Teaching/Assessment programme
* Advanced communication skills training
* Level 2 psychological skills training
Experience
* Significant relevant post-registration experience in the relevant specialty
* Completed Honours Degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Research or Ethics
* Completed or working towards a Masters Degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Research, Ethics or relevant subject.
Communication
* Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats
Quality
* Demonstrates understanding of principles of Clinical Governance, e.g. risk management, audit
* Commitment to quality initiatives, e.g. Nursing & Midwifery strategy, Trust top 10 objectives, CNO 10 key roles and relevant NSFs
* Experience of developing standards, guidelines and policies
* Experience in audit and evaluation of practice/services
Provision of care to meet health and wellbeing needs
* Articulates reasons for desire to work in this clinical area; has a clear vision of the role
* Budgetary management skills
* Experience of managing organizational change
* Experience of managing staff
