Job overview
This is an excellent opportunity to join the Anaesthetics department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful candidate will join a service that prides itself in effective leadership, innovative thinking, and excellent teamwork. We have 1 WTE post that is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage but will also require some activity to be delivered at the new St Albans Elective Hub. The post is comprised of 10 programmed activities (PAs), 0.96 additional programmed activities and an on-call commitment. This post is suitable for those with an interest in orthopaedic anaesthesia but also keen to remain part of the general anaesthetic team. An interest in pre-operative care and pathways is essential. The successful applicant will be part of the general on-call team, which includes obstetric care.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to work-up complex surgical patients in the perioperative period and be familiar with the interpretation of CPET. The post-holder is required to be skilled in all aspects of orthopaedic anaesthesia undertaken at ENHT and the St Albans Elective Hub, which aims towards same day discharge post joint replacement surgery. The post-holder should be confident in regional anaesthetic techniques to facilitate surgery.
The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach to working patterns, undertaking clinical work on any site when required. A strong commitment to the training and education of trainees and other staff members is also expected.

Person specification
Qualifications / Training
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
* FRCA or qualification of an equivalent level
* Higher Anaesthesia (or equivalent) training
* M.R.C.P or equivalent
Previous Experience
* Broad range of experience in Anaesthesia for various specialties
* Experience in delivering anaesthetic, general and/or regional, for orthopaedic day case and inpatient surgery
* Pre-assessment of complex, high-risk patients for surgery
* Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
* Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
* Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
* Demonstrable experience in a consultant role
Skills
* Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
* Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
