To select test profiles according to agreed protocols for specimen type and clinical details. To perform microbiological cultures according to the testing selected. To assist BMS staff with simple tests, assays and the operation of automated instruments following standard operational procedures To separate and prepare specimens for referral by post to a reference laboratory To dilute culture suspensions, inoculate culture media and add antibiotic discs for antimicrobial susceptibility testing. To receive requests for information and respond appropriately. To store processed specimens and assist in retrieval as necessary To assist with laboratory stores and maintenance of consumable stocks including doing pre acceptance testing. To monitor, maintain and clean equipment. To suggest ways to improve working practices To perform any other duties, commensurate with the grade and in the interest of the service and to attend MLA meetings with the Band 4 AP staff who support the MLA staff across the department.
