Job overview
The Secretarial post is in our Breast Department to provide a Comprehensive and Quality Medical Secretarial Service to Consultants and their teams.
You will provide administrative support as well as be involved in the day to day work for the Consultants. You should be enthusiastic, motivated and have good organisational and communication skills. Excellent computer and audio-typing skills are also required.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide a Medical Secretarial Service within the Directorate. To undertake accurate audio/copy typing (including digital) of medical correspondence and general administration for the Consultants and their Teams. This will include highly sensitive and complex medical terminology with a need for confidentiality.
2. To manage clinics ensuring patient numbers match the staff available.
3. To work to the agreed standards and templates for each Specialty/Department.
4. To receive and open Consultant/medical staff’s mail, to action routine/non-routine and urgent correspondence and drawing the necessary items to the attention of the person concerned.
5. To ensure that the departmental transcription workload is prioritised and maintained within time standards.
6. To provide updates to the cancer & general management team when requested.

Person specification
Education & Qualifications
* GCSE Grade C, or above/equivalent in English Language
* RSA II Typing, or equivalent
* Medical Terminology Course, or ability to demonstrate equivalent ability
Experience
* Experience of working within busy office environment
* Experience of word processing
* Experience of audiotyping
* Experience of working within The NHS, General Practice or Private Sector
Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
* Good written and telephone communication skills, to enable liaison with staff at all levels
* Knowledge of Data Protection Act, 1998 and other Trust Policies and Procedures
* Knowledge of Trust Information System, e.g. CRS
