About us:
You will join the Materials & Processes Team in Filton. The UK Materials and Processes team consists of a number of different technology groups: Assembly Technology, Composite Technology, Metals Technology, Surface Technology and Failure Analysis Laboratories. The role will require the successful candidate to perform projects, tasks and activities within one or more of the technology groups.
We are a diverse, international, multi-skilled team of 530 engineers who are a mixture of technical experts and program managers and are passionate about finding technical solutions to support the structures organisation to realise the technologies we will require for the sustainable future of commercial aviation. We are an ideal mix of people who can help you develop technically and personally in the role.
What you will be doing:
The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills (technical, project management, communication etc.) in order to complete them successfully. You will develop the core skills needed in the airframe business:
Materials and Processes;
Metallics;
Composites;
Additive Manufacturing (metal & plastics);
Surface Technology;
Assembly Technology;
Failure Analysis.
You will also develop skills in Project Management and Leadership through working on projects with a broad range of people.
Requirements:
Please note our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

We are looking for the following skills:
Technical skills:
Studying towards a degree in Materials Science (Metallic Materials focus), Aerospace Engineering (Metallic Materials focus), or equivalent;
Competency in transverse disciplines (lean, innovation, design thinking, green & eco efficiency);
Nice to have some knowledge and/or experience in one of the following engineering toolsets:
Design tools (e.g. Catia V5, 3DEXperience, VPM, PDMLink/PASS);
Stress sizing and simulation tools (e.g. ISAMI)
Finite Element tools (e.g. Hyperworks, Patran/Nastran, Abaqus);
Programming (at least one language between Python, Java, C++);
You will have at least a negotiation level of English, and another language is beneficial.
