Job Title: Maintenance Engineer Location: Ilkeston, Derbyshire Duration: Permanent Salary: Circa £40,000 per annum We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Engineer to work with the Maintenance Team or independently to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of preventative maintenance, repairs, and fault response across all areas of the business. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Follow all company procedures and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) policies. Use the in-house safety system (LO/TO, Permit) to carry out and document planned repairs and modifications. Respond to and repair equipment breakdowns quickly and efficiently, monitoring progress until the issue is fully resolved. Perform planned preventative maintenance on plant and equipment, aiming for maximum availability and zero unplanned downtime. Complete paperwork accurately and on time, ensuring all work is logged into the CMMS system. Communicate any operational concerns to the Engineering Manager promptly. Manage spare parts effectively to support key processes. Provide cover for other roles within the shop floor operations when needed. Work flexibly with engineering staff to provide 24-hour technical support. Identify and suggest continuous improvement opportunities; implement solutions when appropriate. Carry out a full range of maintenance activities on installed assets. Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and basic fabrication issues. Support other teams/departments as needed. Ensure all monitoring systems are completed according to company standards and procedures. Report any non-conformances and participate in corrective action activities. Contribute to site efficiency and performance improvements. Knowledge & Experience: Preferred experience in the concrete/pre-cast sector, construction materials, or a similar mechanical plant environment. Experience in: Fitting and stripping hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Basic milling, turning, drilling, and grinding. Using hand tools for precise operations. Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines, follow maintenance schedules, and respond to breakdowns. Understanding of company policies related to health and safety, discipline, attendance, absence, and behaviour standards. Qualifications & Training: Ideally, a qualified Mechanical Engineer with an apprenticeship background. Experience in medium/heavy industrial environments is beneficial. Good knowledge of LV & HV electrical systems is a plus. Ability to perform mechanical preventative maintenance and repairs. A reasonable standard of spoken and written English, with the ability to read and understand work instructions, drawings, and safety signage. Basic safety training.
