Job overview
We are recruiting for a Nurse Team Manager - Ward 6B who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
Ward 6B based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage is a 25-bedded ward offering care and treatment to both male and female patients who are acutely unwell with renal disease and other associated medical issues. As a Nurse Team Manager, you will be responsible for the general management of the ward and staff, and together with care planning, discharge planning, and clinical risk assessments, provide a safe and therapeutic environment for all.

Main duties of the job
1. To have overall responsibility for the operational management and clinical service delivery for Ward 6B - Renal.
2. Provide specialist renal nursing care and expertise, both in delivering direct patient care and in support of other staff caring for the needs of our Renal inpatients.
3. Providing appropriate intervention, support, and clinical expertise to deliver a safe clinical pathway that promotes high-quality care through role modelling, expert clinical skills, promoting best practice, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration, and providing education.
4. Promote high standards of professional practice and the delivery of quality care within the corporate policies, protocols and guidelines.
5. Accountable for the delivery and monitoring of robust infection control measures at ward/ department level, through ongoing vigilance by ensuring delivery of all aspects of the Infection Control Strategy.
6. Provide clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff.
7. To be a highly skilled clinical expert with specialised knowledge in caring for patients with complex needs.
8. To provide advice and support to all staff working in the area.
9. To establish effective communication links with the Unplanned Division- Care Group 3 management team.
Person specification
Qualifications / Training
* Registered General Nurse with evidence of current registration with NMC
* Have a Nursing Degree or equivalent experience and 5 years post-registration experience.
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Renal Course Qualification, or currently undertaking the course.
* Mentorship/ Teaching Qualification, ENB 998 or equivalent
* Leadership Course
Previous Experience
* Post-registration experience in renal care including Acute Kidney Injury, Chronic and End Stage Renal Failure, Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Transplantation
* Relevant renal experience at Band 6 or equivalent within Renal
* Logical and consistent work and career pattern.
* Proven team management experience.
* Proven ability to manage change.
* Evidence of standard setting and audit
* Experience with budget management
Skills
* Able to use initiative.
* Able to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives
* Evidence of dealing with human resources issues
* Good time management skills and ability to manage own workload.
* Good organisational skills.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and communicate with staff at all levels.

* Able to use eROSTER, TRAC, DATIX, ePMA, LOREnzo
* IT Skills and presentation skills (Powerpoint, Excel, etc)
* Ability to initiate, lead and support quality improvement initiatives.
* Able to manage a team including maintaining appraisals, managing staff sickness, and staff performance.
* Evidence of developing expert clinical skills relevant to renal nursing.
Knowledge
* Specialist renal knowledge.
* Ability to work with all staff on a multi-professional level, demonstrating up to date knowledge of practice development.
* Awareness of health and safety legislation.
* Awareness of current national initiatives and publications
* Evidence in leading a ward initiative or a link nursing role
* Ability to engage and work collaboratively with the renal research team.
* Knowledge of current Trust renal objectives/initiatives.
