A local college for Autistic pupils in Sunderland requires a Learning Support Assistant. This is a full time role which is long term and is for a September start (potentially for a year). We are looking for candidates with experience of working in an education setting such as a school or college and the interest to work with 16 – 25 year old learners with Autism. Ideally you will have experience of working with SEN pupils but this is not essential; the willingness and interest to learn is key and full training will be given.
Activities include assisting one to one or in small groups with lessons and it helps that your Maths, ICT and English are at level 2 so you must be confident and willing to support these learning activities. There are also living skills training such as travel training you will support groups with as they go out on trips.
Ideally this Learning Support Assistant position will require you to have a Teaching Assistant qualification to at least Level 2 but if not another relevant education qualification such as a PGCE or Youth Work qualification is needed. We can provide level 2 TA training if required at a subsidised cost.
At all times you will, be working with other experienced Learning Teaching Assistants and the class teacher.
The ideal Learning Support Assistant candidate would:
1. Have good classroom management skills
2. Have a passion for supporting the learning of pupils
3. Have excellent subject knowledge
4. Be able to organise themselves and work well within a team
5. Have had previous experience working with ASD pupils
In addition, you must:

• Have a DBS form or be prepared to obtain one
