About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Data Warehousing team within the Technology function at SMF.
In recent years SMFL has developed a data warehousing function from the ground up, to support a the MI and analytics community. As we look to the future, the data warehousing service will replatform and modernise to utilise industry leading tooling within a modern cloud architecture. In addition to delivery of the software and architecture changes, the data warehousing team will also develop and support a suite of analytical and reporting tables to simplify and standardise output throughout the organisation. A key, and growing, requirement is also to engage with the wider business to develop and maintain process automation solutions.
The Data Warehousing Manager will lead the team in delivering this vision while supporting the day to day operations and support of analytical and MI services within SMFL.
Key Responsibilities
* Co-ordinating and managing the data warehousing team to deliver the necessary support and change requirements
* Supporting and engaging with the project delivery team as required by SMFL’s project activity
* Tracking and management of the data warehousing work backlog, and prioritisation of work items across the team as agreed with technology management
* People management of the data warehousing team
* Mentoring and development of data warehousing team members
* Delivering ELT and data processing code as part of a working technical team
* Delivering and maintaining process automation solutions
* Liaising with 3rd party suppliers and vendors to ensure productive working relationships with SMF’s partners
* Ensuring data warehousing systems and processes are adequately documented
* Considering and advising on data security and compliance requirements
* Solution design to ensure the right architecture, process and code structure is utilised when change or new development is needed
* Maintaining and supporting the scheduling system utilised to run reporting and warehouse build jobs
* Championing and encouraging the wider data warehousing user community to adopt coding and solution design best practices
Candidate Requirements
* Good educational background in relevant field, such as Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics
* At least 3-5 years proven working experience in data warehousing and/or data-related roles
* Excellent client-facing, written and communication skills
* Strong understanding of data warehousing and ETL principles
* Solid organisational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
* Experience/Knowledge of SAS software on SAS 9.4 platform architecture
* Experience/Knowledge of Oracle database solutions and other database platforms (SQL Server etc.)
* Experience with Python 3.x
* Ability to interact with Windows and Linux OS as well as batch/shell script to at least an intermediate level
* Knowledge, understanding and experience of change and release management processes
* Good analytical/problem solving skills
* Good communication skills (written and verbal), applied at all levels across an organisation
* Knowledge of legal guidelines around Data and Finance
* Experience working within an FCA approved Financial Services organisation
