Essential:
1. 1st level Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner
2. Basic Information Technology skills
3. Good written and verbal communication skills
4. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
5. High level of personal motivation towards patient care and continuous professional development
6. Flexibility
7. Aware of responsibilities in line with data protection
Desirable:
1. Experience of audit projects
2. PP126/127 or equivalent or willing to undertake
Patient Care:
1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care in partnership with the patient, multidisciplinary team and family/carer where appropriate.
2. Actively focus on health promotion with individual patients.
3. Effectively manage your workload delegated by a senior nurse by prioritising care appropriately.
4. Carry out a range of clinical duties - Flexible between Anaesthetics and Recovery.
5. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
Human Resources:
1. Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct/HCPC Code with particular inference to acknowledging the limitation of competence of staff in order to safeguard the wellbeing of patients/clients.
2. Contribute to the training of nurses, ODPs, support workers and students to maintain professional portfolio in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, or governing body.
3. Provide learning and leadership support for students and health care assistants.
Professional Development:
1. Participate in a preceptorship programme and receive clinical supervision on a regular basis linked to individual needs.
2. Participate in clinical supervision.
3. With support from the Peri-operative Manager(s), identify your own development needs.
4. Promote evidence-based practice and decision-making.
Policy & Service Development:
1. Understand the Trust's Clinical Governance Strategy and support colleagues to perform within this framework.
2. Keep accurate records in line with the NMC/HCPC Guidelines for records and record keeping.
3. Have an awareness of Health and Safety legislation.
4. All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their activities.
5. The post holder will be expected to comply with all health and safety rules and safe systems of work and to inform their line manager of any work situation or practice which may be considered a danger to health and safety.
Finance & Physical Resources:
1. Utilise resources effectively using evidence-based practice.
2. Report the failure or mechanical problems of any items of equipment in line with the Medical Devices Policy.
3. In line with the department's regular system for supplies, order stock and non-stock items including medicines.
Information Resources:
1. Complete patient records in accordance with the NMC/HCPC Standards of Documentation.
Freedom to Act:
1. Maintain high professional standards and discuss opportunities to develop clinical practice with the line manager.
Control of Infection:
1. All Trust staff have a duty to provide a safe environment by considering adherence to infection prevention and control as an integral part of their roles and responsibilities.
2. The individual roles and responsibilities for staff are outlined in the Trust's control of infection policy.
3. There should be specific discussion of control of infection within the KSF/Appraisal process and as a minimum all staff must demonstrate good hand hygiene and practice and support the Clean Your Hands Campaign.

1. Work will be varied and incorporates both physical and mental effort e.g. Required to concentrate, occasionally required to concentrate for long periods of time.
2. Responsible for moving equipment safely within moving and handling policies.
3. Recognise situations that may be detrimental to health and well-being of self and others and take appropriate action.
Health & Safety:
1. Be aware of health and safety legislation relating to the work environment.
2. Responsible for safe practice when exposed to bodily fluids, hazardous substances and sharps.
3. Responsible for ensuring all equipment is maintained in a safe, functioning manner and reporting any malfunction.
