LEEDS CENTRE OF MISSION & THE ROLE
Leeds Centre of Mission reaches teenagers across the Seacroft area with the love and the good news of Jesus, seeking to make disciples and to grow new forms of church. These young people mainly come from unchurched backgrounds and often face many challenges in life and can present challenging behaviour. Through nearly 5 years of ministry, many young people have come to greatly appreciate the ministry of Church Army, have been helped to make changes in their lives, and have begun to take steps of faith.
The focus has been on a Christian presence in two high schools, a mid-week biker outreach repairing bicycles and motorbikes, and through two Friday night youth clubs (one for year 4-6 students and another for year 7-11s).
In the role of Interim Youth Worker, your primary responsibility is to keep some of the core activities going whilst the main thrust of work is paused, as we value the relationships, activities, and teams that we have built. Having a positive relationship with volunteers is essential. It will be important for you to be available on Friday afternoons/evenings and Wednesday evenings to lead and support the volunteers in the running of these groups.
You will be supported by a member of the Missional Youth Church initiative of Church Army and the CA Mission Development Officer who will give regular guidance, supervision, and telephone support where needed. Once a Lead Evangelist is appointed, it will be your responsibility to work with and under them, in evangelism, innovative mission, making disciples, and continuing to grow the mission.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Evangelise young people to build the kingdom of God and make disciples through various outreach activities.
2. Work alongside the Lead Evangelist and volunteers to mentor, disciple, and pastorally support the young people of Leeds CoM.
3. Prosper the work and witness of the Church Army Mission Community, the Diocese of Leeds, and MYCN.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
The successful candidate will have:
1. Passion for working with young people, including those with challenging behaviours and those who are currently outside the Christian church.
2. Demonstrated ability and experience of working with unchurched young people.
3. Basic understanding of working with young people, current safeguarding requirements, and general good practice.
4. Flexibility in working hours as this is important to fulfil the requirements of the role.
5. Commitment to living the mission of Jesus through a thoughtful and committed Christian faith.
6. The ability to work in a team whilst using initiative to remain accountable.
