Job summary At Martin House Childrens Hospice we are looking to recruit new members of our Family Support team to help children and young people and their families who are seriously unwell make the most of every day; and sensitively support families who are receiving end-of-life care or are bereaved. Were looking for a talented Health Care Play Specialist who wants to spend more time with the children and parents/carers they look after. You'll be based in the Hospice which is currently being extended and renovated into a new building, set in the beautiful Boston Spa countryside. Its a place of hope, joy, play and connection, with care delivered by a multi-disciplinary team that are both supportive and inclusive. Main duties of the job As part of our specialist palliative care team, you will care for children, young people and their families who are staying with us at Martin House, and support those visiting us for day care. Increasing our reach across our community and providing families with choice is central to our model of care, so you will also support children and young people in their family homes and out into hospital settings. ABOUT YOU You will be either an experienced Band 4 Health Care Specialist wanting to take a step upwards, or an experienced Band 5 Health Care Specialist looking to develop your skills and expertise in the hospice sector. You will have excellent clinical and communication skills, be creative and want to make a positive difference to children, young people, and their families, to the team you work with and for the charity. About us Martin House has been caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions from West, North and East Yorkshire for more than 30 years. Every year we care for more than 420 families at our hospice in Boston Spa, in hospitals and in their own homes. We also support more than 150 bereaved families each year. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Health Care Play Specialist qualification Registered member of the National Association of Health Play Specialists Significant experience of working as a Health Care Play Specialist with children and young people within a healthcare setting. Experience of assessment and care planning/management of children/young people and their families exhibiting or at risk of emotional distress. Ability to deliver a range of therapeutic techniques which can be incorporated into 121 and group interventions. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team Ability to supervise, teach and assess students and support junior staff members and volunteers. Evidence of continued professional development within the health play specialist field. Ability to work incorporating the principles of clinical governance. Requires access to a vehicle for business use to enable work in the community/hospital. Desirable Experience working with children with life-limiting conditions and those who are bereaved. Experience of working holistically, family centered practice with an emphasis on wellbeing. Relevant post-basic qualification and training Ability to line manage, supervise and support junior colleagues. Student/staff supervision qualification or equivalent Experience/knowledge of working with diverse cultures and ethnic groups.
