Mechanical Project Engineer
Location: Bedford area
Purpose: The purpose of this position is to deliver the project KPI’s for Delivery, Quality, Safety, Cost and Customer Satisfaction through the effective implementation of the Project Execution Plan, Project Quality Plan and associated procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Promotion of safety functions and procedures; participate in safety improvement incentives
2. Preparation and issuance of technical and contract correspondence, compilation of requisite records and claim submissions to validate claims both against client and subcontractors and protection of employer’s rights and entitlements against incoming claims for mechanical works
3. Pre-qualification and short-listing of contractors and consultants
4. Assist in bid evaluation and awarding of contracts
5. Involvement in pre-construction negotiations
6. Assist with the planning, preparation and development of a Site Budget and accounting
7. Develop / Coordinate sub-contracting strategy and sub-contracts for bid/tender
8. Liase and negotiate with subcontractors on matters of progress, coordination, entitlement and interpretation of contract documents
9. Review, evaluate and approve contract payments and exchange orders
10. Conduct meetings with clients, contractors, and design consultants to clarify design issues and interfaces
11. Conduct regular site inspections and site meetings to determine the status of the projects, to provide directions, to coordinate the works and to solve technical problems
12. Monitor the time schedule and supervise the construction works
13. Apply QA / QC requirements according to field quality program, I&T programs and I&T plans
14. Ensure that work follows applicable codes, statutory regulations and specifications
15. Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared for all relevant tasks
16. Ensure that construction, erection completion documentation and turnover packages are prepared and submitted in a timely manner by Superintendents / Supervisors
17. Provide a weekly report documenting problems, changes, schedule modifications, performance etc.
18. Apply NCR and other relevant tools
19. Ensure properly set up claim management Q-document – Method Statements / Risk Assessments Open item lists / punch lists
20. Training and development for all discipline personnel
21. Experience feedback for improvement
22. Ensure safety functions are integrated into all aspects of work
23. Responsible for on-site administration of subcontractors and direct hired labour
24. Advise senior project team members on strategy, to ensure project progression
25. Coordinate I&C works to avoid conflicts and minimize delays whilst ensuring the efficient, cost-effective and safe completion of the projects
26. Management of budgets, claims negotiation and settlements
27. Identify programme requirements, plan facilities in cooperation with the balance of construction team members
28. Develop, monitor and update schedules
29. Coordinate the development of System Turnover Packages
