Responsibilities
1. Reports to VP of Customer Experience; manage a team of two to four SPECIFICATION writers; being hands-on, collaborative and prepared to give direction, leadership and guide your team to success.
2. Planning, implementing and directing SPECIFICATION Team’s activities and strategies.
3. Coordinate the implementation of these defined strategies and tactics with internal and third-party players.
4. Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies that translate into actionable items for your team or other teams to execute.
5. Control the team’s strategic planning and resources, including managing the recruitment and hiring of new team members.
6. Deliver and monitor results, monthly and ad-hoc ensuring stated objectives are delivered on plan (monitor/ early indicators) and where required, take corrective actions to achieve targets.
7. Define and disseminate SPECIFICATION related best practices and procedures among the team to ensure uniform deliverables.
8. Provide technical information about products to mechanical engineers, architects, interior designers and our customers (Building Product Manufacturer’s).
9. Provide customer support via telephone, email and virtual meetings for specification requests, and provide answers to product applications.
10. Prepare mechanical and architectural product specifications using ATS Spec Tool, ATS Visual Spec Builder, design development outline (proposals) and design-build specifications for commercial projects across North America.
11. Research and evaluate construction materials and products to satisfy the end user’s needs, as well as to comply with local building code and other regulations.
12. Analyze, understand and, on occasion provide quantity take-offs on architectural drawings.
13. Continuously grasp mechanical and architectural product knowledge through daily work and in-house product training.
Minimum Requirements
1. College Diploma or University Degree, in Architecture/Engineering or Construction.
2. 2-5 years of experience managing people.
3. 3-15 years of experience in Specification Writing or in the Construction Industry.
4. The skill set to effectively lead, coach and mentor others.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage and influence across all levels of the organization.
6. Superior organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with accuracy and strong attention to detail.
7. Bilingual English/French is considered an asset.
