Transport Services manages the maintenance and repair of the council's vehicle fleet/plant/equipment in accordance with legal regulations, hire company's and manufacturers' standards and targets. The Commercial Vehicle Technician (Level 3) role is to support the Workshop Manager by undertaking the maintenance of the Council's fleet, including third party and plant maintenance, ensuring that processes are carried out effectively to meet the service's obligations including legislative and health safety, in a timely and cost-effective manner.
We have our own workshop at Oakleigh Depot and maintain a large fleet of service vehicles and plant used for front line services such as recycling and waste collections, street cleansing, ground maintenance tasks, and passenger services. We maintain vehicles such as RCVs and vans up to and above VOSA standard. Vehicle technicians are to assist in the delivery of an efficient and effective Transport Workshop service in a safe manner, ensuring the fleet is maintained in a legal and roadworthy condition, and promoting a continuous improvement and 'right first time' culture.
Applicants are required to have City and Guilds and IMI qualifications. Experience of maintaining commercial LGV and plant is essential, along with experience of maintaining Mercedes and Dennis vehicles and buses. An up-to-date MOT test qualification and the ability to drive a class 2 vehicle are also required. You will be representing the Council and will need to be courteous and helpful at all times. Flexibility to work in shifts as and when required by the needs of the service is necessary.
