We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our team at years.com. We are a startup that is growing rapidly and as such are adding equipment and automation. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of all plant machinery, including routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs, in addition to looking into and delivering creative ways of using machines to create our brilliant products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on all production machinery and equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control issues on production lines to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations within a food manufacturing environment.
- Maintain, repair, and optimize electrical, mechanical, and automation systems including conveyors, packaging machines, mixers, and other processing equipment.
- Collaborate with production teams to identify and resolve equipment issues quickly and efficiently.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including PPM schedules and repair logs.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and improve efficiency.
- Scope equipment that will bring costs down or improved our process.
- Modifying existing equipment to improve quality or throughput.
- Provide input and feedback on machinery performance and suggest improvements or modifications where necessary.
- Support and train junior members of the maintenance team as required.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge relevant to the food production industry.
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex machinery and equipment issues.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations (HACCP, BRC, etc.).
- Understanding of health and safety standards in a food manufacturing environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet production demands.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively.
Desirable Skills:
- Electronics and automation experience including knowledge of PLC systems (Programmable Logic Controllers) and automated production lines.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and HMI (Human Machine Interface).
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Previous experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
Qualifications:
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Additional certifications in electronics, automation, or related fields are desirable.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and independently.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing production schedules and priorities.
