We have an exciting opportunity available within the Highways Service at Sandwell MBC based at Sandwell Council House, Oldbury. We are seeking a highly motivated, skilled and experienced Highway Safety Inspector to work within Sandwell’s Highway Maintenance Team. The Council’s Highways Infrastructure Asset Management Plan (HIAMP) sets out the approaches, processes, inspections types, frequencies and intervention levels the Council use to maintain highway Infrastructure in a safe and accessible condition. The condition of the highway network within Sandwell is proactively monitored through a combination of: Planned highway safety inspections Annual Condition Surveys Ad-hoc interim inspections You will be assisting the Group Manager Assets and Maintenance, Principal and Senior Engineers in undertaking both planned and ad-hoc highway inspections, associated record keeping and reporting and dealing with enquiries and complaints from residents and elected members. This post will be a Band F £36,124 to £40,476 (SPC 26 to 31) and will help the Council meet its obligations and statutory duties under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Highways Act 1980 and Traffic Management Act 2004 by assisting in keeping the Borough’s Highways safe and accessible to all. This role plays a key part in the organisation and you will be taking responsibility for managing and motivating people and other resources to deliver the Council’s priorities and objectives, defects rectification processes, programme delivery, customer journey processes, management reporting and instilling a culture of continuous improvement. We would love to hear from applicants who can demonstrate: That they hold a prescribed qualification for Highway Safety Inspections (IHE or Lantra etc.) That they hold a prescribed qualifications in supervising streetworks Experience in highway safety inspections processes Experience in the use of tablets or devices to record defect and condition data An understanding of current highway maintenance techniques Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety Legislation Ability to assess risk and hazards when working on the highway. A drive for continuous improvement.
