Job Summary
A rare, fantastic opportunity to join the Haematology Specialist Nurse team at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
The role is for a haematology experienced registered nurse to work within the team of specialist nurses providing expert advice, guidance and treatment for patients with a haematological diagnosis.
Our service delivers intensive treatment and recovery on our specialised inpatient area including Acute myeloid leukaemia induction therapy, Car T cell therapy, and biotherapy. Our outpatient areas also deliver chemotherapy and treatments with a high patient throughput. We are also a designated hospital for teenage and young adult care and have a non-malignant paediatric haematology service.
Reviewing patients daily with complex issues, haematology Specialist nurses are pivotal in the delivery of services at STSFT to improve the quality and safety of haematology care for patients.
Main duties of the job
Haematology nurse Specialists at STSFT work within disease specific groups. Each nurse manages a group of patients with the same diagnosis to improve continuity and set high levels of care delivery. This also assists in delivering an equitable service across both sites. The Haematology Specialist nurses work between SRH site and ST site.
Working within disease groups allows knowledge growth along with expansion of service. Education is important within the team and well supported. We would drive to support candidates to have skills in clinical assessment and independent prescribing to assist in delivering holistic care to the patients.
The Haematology Nurse Specialists work within a large team of six haematology Consultants and numerous chemotherapy specialist nurses and health care assistants. We all work together to deliver an excellent service.
