Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
SSEN Transmission has a fantastic opportunity as an Assistant HVDC Engineering Manager - CDM to help us with the delivery of our HVDC projects. The role involves the co-ordination of the Principal Designer's duties under the CDM 2015 regulations for all of our HVDC projects to be delivered as part of the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Infrastructure (ASTI) programme.
You will
- Support the Principal Designer to discharge their Duties:
* Ensure that the Principal Design team is fulfilling their responsibilities under the CDM regulations, specifically regarding the management of health and safety risks throughout the design process.
* Assist in the identification, assessment, and management of risks related to the HVDC projects, including risks associated with high-voltage electrical equipment, subsea cable installation, and construction in remote or challenging environments.
- Actively lead on Health and Safety Design Risk Management:
* Facilitate design risk assessments and provide guidance on mitigating health and safety risks at the design stage, ensuring that safety is integrated into the design process and the Principal Design Teams are complying with this process.
* Facilitate and create programme for HAZID,HAZCON,HAZOP workshops.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders:
* Work closely with the Safety, Health & Wellbeing team to ensure the Principal Design teams are discharging their duties under CDM.
* Ensure communication between the Principal Designer, project team, contractors, and other stakeholders is effective across all HVDC projects to ensure health and safety requirements are consistently met throughout the project lifecycle.
* Act as a liaison to ensure all parties involved in the design stages of a project are aware of their duties under the CDM regulations 2015.
- Actively manage Documentation and Compliance:
* Ensure the Principal Designer’s risk management strategies are properly documented, communicated, and acted upon.
- Monitor Site and Design Phases
* Monitor the progress of the design process to ensure that health and safety risks continue to be properly managed as designs evolve.
* Support the Principal Designer in preparing and updating the Health and Safety File, ensuring it is maintained and handed over upon project completion, including information on risks and mitigations during the design and construction phases.
You have
- A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (preferably Electrical and CEng).
- Experience with CDM regulations (particularly CDM 2015) and working on complex infrastructure projects (such as HVDC or other high-voltage systems).
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including designers, engineers and contractors.
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of electricity networks and industry.
- Strong understanding of health and safety principles, especially in relation to design and construction.
