Department: Architectural RIBA Part 1
Location: Winchester, Hampshire
Description
We are keen to support students and have places available for RIBA Part 1 qualified individuals seeking a 1-year placement. The individual will be able to contribute to a variety of projects, working as part of a team of highly skilled and motivated professionals.
The successful candidate will be an ambitious, dynamic, motivated and creative individual, who is looking for a challenging and rewarding experience. Successful candidates should have an interest in traditional and/or classical design.
Key Competencies
* Good drawing and presentation skills.
* Strong design ability coupled with an eye for detail.
* Awareness of building technologies and environmental design and ability to employ structural theories, construction techniques and processes.
* Awareness of technical standards, regulatory frameworks and health and safety requirements.
* Well organised, with good time management skills; proficient at working on a varied portfolio of work and meeting all deadlines.
* Good people skills, comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
* Good communication skills.
* Willingness to travel within the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Technical and Design
* Preparation of sketch, working and presentation models as required.
* To assist in the preparation of CAD drawings for internal and external purposes.
* Take instructions to carry out refinements/revisions to the design to satisfy the brief, the site-context and any additional client requirements that may come to light, as the project progresses.
* Attend sites to assist with detail area surveys or, other site related issues/meetings as required.
* Assist in preparation and/or commission measured surveys and site reports.
* Assist in the integration of technical information and statutory requirements into design and production drawings.
* To assist in the presentation of drawings for planning and building control approval, tender and construction purposes.
* To produce hand drawings as required.
* To be aware of H&S issues throughout projects.
Other
* To assist in the maintenance of office and project files, printing/scanning drawings and preparing drawing issues.
* Research project briefs, materials and construction products and systems.
* Assist with the preparation of specifications and written contract documentation.
* Attending in house and external CPD activities.
Communication
* Attending internal and external meetings.
* Able to work within a team and with other members of staff throughout the office.
* Feed the results of your work back to the Architect, Associate or Associate Director for review/discussion and further design/technical development.
* Answer the phone, taking messages or, dealing with the queries directly (as your knowledge and experience grows).
