Clinical: To work in a busy Paediatric Cardiology Ward covering inpatient care, participating in daily cardiology ward rounds with senior colleagues including specialist ward rounds. Involved with inpatient/outpatient day cases. During your time, you will also be encouraged to attend and perform work in all areas of the unit including cardiac theatres, catheter laboratory, echo department and weekly case discussions. For suitable interested applicants specific advanced training in congenital intervention, paediatric and ACHD electrophysiology, echocardiography, paediatric heart failure and transplant, or cross sectional imaging will be incorporated into their activity. Administrative: Admission clerking and other ward-based duties like assessments, daily or more frequent clinical review as necessary, prescribing, requesting investigations and actioning results. Completing discharge summaries in timely manner. Research: Opportunities to participate in ongoing or new research projects within the department. To develop and pursue research ideas within congenital cardiology with the support of consultants. Teaching: There is a formal teaching programme specifically for SHOs within the department on a weekly basis. Participating in weekly journal club, bedside teaching, teaching medical students and attending MDT sessions. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend.
