Job Description
Job Purpose:
To undertake a wide variety of accounting assignments, including VAT return preparation, to a high standard of technical competence, delivered with a good degree of autonomy, and within budget and client expectations.
Principal duties
1. Provide accounting services to clients accurately and to budget and time deadlines
2. Undertake efficient and accurate bookkeeping in respect of client’s accounting records.
3. Prepare client’s VAT returns with a high level of technical understanding and ensure deadlines are met.
4. Respond to ad hoc client requests in respect of their financial affairs in a timely manner.
5. Build solid and trusting relationships with clients and staff.
Key Activities:
6. Collating client’s accounting records.
7. Posting client’s accounting transactions into accounting software.
8. Reviewing transactions to confirm their VAT treatment.
9. Preparing VAT returns and related workings.
10. Provide technical support to clients when required.
Qualifications
Key Competencies:
11. Accuracy – to ensure transactions treated correctly.
12. Judgement - be able to assess a situation and reach a suitable conclusion based on the information available or effectively communicate with a manager where unsure.
13. Planning and organisation - needed throughout the process to ensure deadlines are met and client portfolios are managed.
14. Customer focus - develop relationships and gain confidence of client. Ability to deal with client queries and emails on a timely basis, and have flexibility to work on-site at client’s premises.
15. Use of IT – be able to work on bookkeeping packages, accounts production software and Excel.
16. Teamwork – working with colleagues in the team.
17. Flexibility – to assist with other ad hoc services that arise from time to time.
18. Innovative - using technology to create efficiencies in processes.
19. Technical knowledge – awareness of FRS102 and FRS 102 1a
Education/Qualifications:
20. Strong academic history.
21. Studying towards AAT qualification or evidence of suitable work experience.
Key Experience/Skills:
22. Prior experience of computerised accounting packages including cloud based software.
23. Ability to work independently but as part of a wider team.
24. Results orientated to meet and exceed client expectations, with a key focus on delivering high quality work that consistently meets internal and/or external client deadlines.
25. Understanding of new accounting standards.
