Lakenheath Surgery is a small, friendly, semi-rural, part dispensing, effective and well-organised GMS practice with currently 5500 registered patients. This partner owned GMS (General Medical Services) practice has a stable list size and works through partnership and collaboration to provide patients with joined-up solutions which meet the needs of its semi-rural demographics. We are now looking to recruit a salaried GP for 4 to 6 sessions per week, with a view to offering a future partnership. The successful candidate will be supported by a multidisciplinary team including paramedic, practice nurses, HCA, social prescribers, health and wellbeing coach, first contact MSK physiotherapist, virtual pharmacists and a clinical pharmacist as well as highly trained dispensing and administration staff. There is an empathetic management style described as GP traditional, non-hierarchical, informal, flexible and functional with a strong sense of community, and it is very important to the partners that this is maintained and developed. Whilst being clinically driven, the practice also performs well financially and presents as a strongly democratic, happy and balanced team with good communication between the clinical team, partners and administration teams. We have recently transitioned to a triage system that is designed to enable GPs to have improved oversight of both acute and routine appointments. Home visits are very few and as a small practice we know our patients very well and continue to provide a caring service based on continuity of care. Knowledge of System One would be advantageous but full training will be given. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support and care for a diverse patient group. The role will include all general duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, including: Undertaking a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timely fashion; Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting medical problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation; Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems; Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness; Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols; Providing health education; Recording clear consultation notes to agreed standards; Collecting data for audit purposes and complying with QOF requirements; Delivering enhanced services; Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions. About Us Lakenheath Surgery provides patient services from its current location in the High Street, Lakenheath. The premises, a former residential dwelling was re-designed purposefully into the well-equipped GP practice we see today and is partner owned. There is also ample on site, disabled and street parking. The practice catchment area serves those living in Lakenheath and outlying rural and semi-rural areas which also includes civilian members at the American air force base at RAF Lakenheath. Lakenheath is a large picturesque village in West Suffolk close to the county boundaries of Norfolk and Cambridgeshire; and at the meeting point of The Fens and the Breckland natural environments. The village is surrounded by medieval history and enviable scenic landscape. The surgery premises are accessible by road from the A1065 and A1085 leading to the A11, A14 and M11, giving easy access to Cambridge, Peterborough and Norwich and the more local areas of Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Thetford and Ely. RSBP Lakenheath Fen, Brandon County Park and Thetford Forest are all within short driving distance of the practice. There is easy access to the local public transport network and an excellent range of housing, schools, shops, sporting facilities and other public amenities within easy commute to the practice. The practice is a dispensing practice, dispensing medication to a third of its registered population which are local families with a predominance of patients over the age of 55 and many are whole generation families. The surgery is one of 8 member practices which forms the Forest Heath PCN (Primary Care Network), offering extended services to a combined list of over 70,000 patients. Committed to high quality care, the practice has consistently high Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) achievement and continues to aspire to meet the challenges and targets of the NHS and National Standards requirements. The practice is also invested and committed to education and personal development of all of its staff. Falling within the boundary of Suffolk & North East Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB), the practice is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the latest inspection being December 2018; and the report issued in January 2019 rated the practice as ‘Good’ across all KLOEs (Key lines of Enquiry). The review in June 2023 did not prompt a further inspection.
