Job summary
Eye Casualty offers a walk-in service between 07:00 and 22:00, 365 days a year. The successful candidate will be part of a small team providing reception cover for this service. This role is primarily patient-facing, requiring strong customer service skills.
This is a 33-hour per week position, with shifts of 12 hours, three times a week.
There are three shift patterns:
* ELD - 07:00 - 19:30
* MLS - 08:00 - 20:30
* LLD - 09:30 - 22:00
The Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients. We seek someone with a welcoming and reassuring personality who can quickly capture and record essential information in a respectful manner.
Main duties of the job
1. Greeting patients arriving at Eye Casualty.
2. Booking patients onto the database, including registering patients with the hospital and entering information for the triage team.
3. Dealing with patient queries.
4. Tracking patients on the system when they need to visit other hospital areas for tests and returning to Eye Casualty, to prevent delays.
5. Booking follow-up appointments and referring patients to community providers.
6. Greeting and booking patients attending Rapid Access and Laser Clinics, and managing the clinic area after visits.
7. Setting up and clearing the reception area at the start and end of each day.

Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
* Essential: Educated to 'O' level, GCSE, or equivalent, including English and Maths.
* Desirable: 5 GCSE A-C passes including English and Maths or equivalent.
Experience
* Essential: Customer Service Skills.
* Desirable: Knowledge of hospital IT systems such as Medway PAS, Notis.
Other Requirements
* Essential: Ability to work shifts including weekends and Bank Holidays.
Skills
* Understanding of confidentiality.
* Ability to prioritize tasks.
