This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and committed individual to join the Year Team as a Pastoral Support Officer. The Year Team works collaboratively to support, hold accountable and develop a team of tutors; help to ensure that all students in the year group experience high quality teaching and learning; and maintain high standards of student conduct and achievement. The successful candidate will have the drive, competitiveness and sense of ownership needed to ensure that when a member of staff is absent, the year group is not impacted.
As part of the Pastoral Support team, you might be assigned to a particular year group and will be responsible for supporting in the absence of Year Team staff. The duties and responsibilities in this are not restrictive and the post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that may be required from time to time. Any such duties should not however substantially change the general character of the post.
The Pastoral Support Officer might have timetabled sessions, including break and lunchtime supervision, On-call and the On Call Room. The Pastoral Support Officer is accountable to Heads of Year and an Assistant Headteacher and are supported by other Deputy Heads of Year.
The main duties and responsibilities will include:
Principal Responsibilities
* Contribute to the consistent implementation of the year group strategy and vision;
* Taking responsibility for timetabled sessions in the short-term absence of teachers within the department, and where additional cover is required, within the rest of the school;
* Promote the highest standards of student behaviour, attainment and attitudes within the Year Group;
* Monitor the progress and development of all students in the Year Group and liaise with other staff when interventions are needed;
* Monitor and promote excellent student attendance, punctuality and engagement within the students in a Year Group.
Other Responsibilities
* Plan and implement interventions with individual and small groups of students to address their needs, reviewing and evaluating their effectiveness;
* Supervising groups of students in extra-curricular activities, corrective conversations, study or homework clubs, as required;
* Provide general administrative and clerical support for the Year Team, as required. This could include:
* Carrying out research
* Preparing and mounting displays
* Contacting families and organising meetings
* Contacting outside agencies and parents on straightforward matters;
* Ensure a tidy and well-presented working environment within the pastoral areas of the school;
* Undertake break, lunchtime or on-call room, as required.
General Responsibilities
* Be responsible for keeping up to date with the requirements of the role, by attending appropriate INSET and meetings, and keeping abreast of changes in legislation;
* Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, equal opportunities and race equality, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person;
* To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as may be required by the Headteacher.
