As a PEPASS Apprentice you will build the skills needed to be a Sports and Activities Coach. You will join the Active Schools team and will be assigned a mentor for the duration of your apprenticeship.\n\nAs an Apprentice, you will support physical activity and sport opportunities in a school community. You will be working with a range of pupils from a variety of backgrounds including Primary, Secondary and Additional Support for Learning. Throughout the Apprenticeship you will receive training and will complete a number of coaching and delivery qualifications. You will be supported and encouraged as a coach to develop the required skills and abilities to deliver high quality activity sessions.\n\nThere will be opportunities to work with other staff and colleagues across the city so candidates should be prepared to travel when necessary to schools, clubs, events and competitions as required.\n\nGlasgowâs PEPASS Team (Physical Education, Physical Activity & School Sport) is located within Education Services for Glasgow City Council. The Active Schools Programme sits within PEPASS. The team is one of the largest and busiest activity teams in the country with a massive range and diversity of activity and sport facilities on our doorstep. From Athletics to Track Cycling, Swimming to Outdoor Education, the opportunities that will be available to Modern Apprentices are second to none in the industry.\n\nPEPASS develops, supports and manages a number of sport and activity opportunities, competitions, programmes and events and provides resources and information to support schools, staff and partners across the city, encouraging Primary and Secondary aged pupils to get involved and be more physically active, more often. \nThe team is made up of Physical Education Lead Officers, Active Schools Coordinators, a Modern Apprentice Lead Officer, a Dance and Activities Development Officer, a School Leadership Officer, Blairvadach Outdoor Education Centre, the Glasgow Primary Swim Team, management and an administrative support/development team.\nThey are committed to contributing to Glasgow's key priorities of:\n\nEquality, Diversity and Inclusion\n2014 Legacy Sport\nGlasgow Improvement Challenge\nPhysical Education and School Sport\nOpportunities for Participation\nCoach Education and Leadership\nClub Coaching and Volunteering\nEvents and Competition\n\nDay to day, you key responsibilities and duties will be â \n1.\tRepresent the PEPASS Team in a professional manner at all times.\n2.\tSupport Active Schools Team in developing, delivering and supporting sport and activity opportunities to Primary, Secondary and ASL pupils.\n3.\tComplete SVQ project, assessment and module work related to the Apprenticeship in a timely manner.\n4.\tSupport the PEPASS Team at competitions and events.\n5.\tSupport a variety of working groups with project work related to making more pupils, more active, more often.\n6.\tComplete a number of online and live training programmes within the required timescales.\n You will complete an SVQ Level 2 Active Leisure, Learning and Wellbeing (SCQF Level 6). \n\nThe SVQ will consist of 4 modules in relation to Sports Coaching: Safeguarding, Planning, Delivery and Review. Learning will take place throughout the first year of your Apprenticeship combined with placement out in local cluster schools with an assigned Active Schools Mentor. You will have the opportunity to put the skills learned in your SVQ into practice in your schools with the support of your mentor. \n\nYou will also complete mandatory enhancements to your SVQ (including Sports First Aid, Disability Inclusion Training and ICT skills) and an additional training programme throughout your Apprenticeship through NGBs, local and city wide partners. \n\n Demonstrate an enthusiasm for Sport.\n\nIt would be an advantage if you have been involved in one of our Leadership Programmes (Sports Leadership, Dance Leadership or Young Ambassador Programme).\nIt would be desirable if applicants have National 4 Maths and English.\n\nTo be eligible to apply you must:\n1.\tBe available to participate in the both stages of the recruitment process.\n2.\tBe available to complete paid employment of 30 hours a week for 22 months between September 2025 â July 2027. \n Salary is based on a 30 hour week and may be subject to change.\n3. \tSupply two references upon accepting a position. This can be from a member of school staff, Active Schools or from a wider community setting e.g. club coach. \n The interview process is conducted over two stages from 30th June â 4th July and candidates must be available for the full week. \n
