Senior Marine Manager East of England Ports

Purpose of the role
* Directly support the Head of Marine in the strategic delivery of Marine Services, predominantly in East of England but when required at London, Kent and to support all aspects of commercial and other marine activity (24/7 and 365 days per year).
* Ensure consistency of understanding and implementation/statutory compliance with all marine and ports associated legislation and all operational support delivery and requirements
Expectations
The Senior Marine Manager is appointed to support the Head of Marine in the delivery of Marine and Pilotage Operations Powers and duties are delegated by the Group Harbour Master through the harbour authoritys legislation and by various other general instruments.
As the Senior Marine Manager you shall have managerial responsibilities with the aim of discharging the authoritys duty to ensure safety of navigation and to facilitate the safe and efficient use of the harbours by all users; this includes where appropriate, the arrival and departure of vessels, the embarking and disembarking of passengers and marine recreational activities.
Main Responsibilities
* Act as Deputy to the Head of Marine for the South East Ports Division as and when directed/required.
* Lead Marine and Pilotage operational delivery in the port and embed consistent approaches across the department and support all requirements as directed by the Head of Marine and Port Director.
* Ensure the delivery of Marine objectives and KPIs, strategy and customer service requirements.
* Be a role model for all Marine teams, demonstrating leadership behaviours, set standards and inspiring others to achieve the departments objectives.
* Ensure all new and existing activities are carried out in compliance with agreed quality standards.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve overall and day-to-day productivity and profitability through operational improvements.
* Develop effective relationships with a range of stakeholders including other Senior Managers, employees, customers, labour suppliers and Trade Unions.
* Support people to become successful, through training, coaching and mentoring.
* Proactively support change, championing new approaches, articulating what it means for individuals, and promoting effective communication.
* Exceed customer expectations through operational change and thus actively promote the Ports Group performance rankings.
* Promote effective performance management, through the appraisal process and regular feedback to the teams.
* Any other responsibilities deemed suitable to the role and where trained to do so

For this role, we ideally seek:
* Previous experience within the maritime sector, whether that be at sea, within port operations or shipping management.
* Ideally experience of working with multidiscipline teams and liaising with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, port uses and local authorities.
* An understanding of maritime risk management, marine safety management and the UK maritime regulatory framework.
Essential Qualifications:
* Recognised relevant Professional qualification or equivalent Marine Qualification (STCW)
Desired Qualifications:
* 2 A Levels or equivalent qualification
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Diploma in Port Management or UKHMA HM Diploma
* IOSH Managing Safely
* Must hold a full UK driving licence and have own car as travel is expected within the role.
