Job Description Job Position: Consultant Health and Safety Practitioner (Principal Designer / CDM Advisor) Job Type: Permanent (full-time) Hours: 36.25 hours per week – Monday to Friday Location: Confidential, Belfast, Northern Ireland Salary: Negotiable depending on experience and qualifications Overview / Scope: Our client, a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is on the hunt for an experienced construction industry health and safety practitioner. This role involves significant responsibilities, including serving as a Principal Designer / CDM advisor, primarily for projects in Northern Ireland and Great Britain, with potential involvement in projects in the Republic of Ireland. The ideal candidate will become a pivotal member of a well-established, collaborative team of seasoned health and safety professionals. This team manages a broad array of projects across various disciplines for both public and private sector clients in fields such as Education, Leisure, Residential, Commercial, Utility, and Manufacturing, to name a few. Key Duties / Responsibilities: Management of health and safety roles across multiple projects in a bustling multi-disciplinary environment. Offering professional support and guidance to multi-disciplinary teams, clients, or contractors to ensure compliance with statutory health and safety requirements. Assisting in obtaining and reviewing relevant site records, conducting site appraisals, and identifying existing hazards and restrictions. Participation in design reviews, coordination of health and safety matters, and management of design risks during team meetings or workshops. Compilation and dissemination of pre-construction information and health and safety files, and review of construction phase plans, risk assessments, and method statements. Performing health and safety compliance inspections and reporting. Working closely with the internal health and safety team to share insights and collaborate on workplace and management system health and safety matters. Essential Criteria: A minimum Level 3 professional health and safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent). At least 5 years of relevant experience in health and safety design and/or risk management within the construction industry. Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and standards. Proficiency in conducting construction health and safety site inspections and reviewing contractor documentation. Full Driving Licence and willingness to travel as needed. Desired Criteria: CDM / Principal Designer qualifications. PSDP qualifications. Higher education qualification in a relevant field (HND/BSc/BEng or similar). Professional membership in relevant health and safety organizations (APS, IOSH, IIRSM, ICE H&S Register, etc.). Skills / Requirements: In-depth understanding of the design and construction process. Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and core health and safety legislation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proactive, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines on multiple projects. Self-motivated, independent, and eager to tackle new challenges.
