Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
· Wire gear plate components based on schematic diagrams or point-to-point wiring lists.
· Layout and wire functional units, interlink panels, and door components as part of the manufacturing process.
· Manufacture and install both standard and custom copper busbar systems following mechanical design drawings, including tasks such as cropping, bending, hydraulic punching, and fitting large electrical components.
· Operate the powder coating plant, including loading and unloading products, manual spraying, overseeing automatic spray booths, and conducting routine maintenance and inspections of the equipment.
· Prepare sheet metal through production operations for product manufacturing, including operating CNC punch and bending machinery, as well as performing mechanical assembly tasks such as welding and guillotine operation.
· Learn and adhere to company procedures related to quality systems to ensure high standards.
· Comply with company policies regarding health and safety, including The Health and Safety at Work Act and COSHH regulations.
· Maintain a clean and organized work environment at all times.
· Perform additional duties within the scope of the job as required.

* Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
* Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.

Your training plan
Training will be delivered one day per week, term time, and is based at The Highfield site and facilities are in creation to enrich the student experience, developing them with the necessary skills using industry recognised equipment to ensure the apprentice receives training closely matched to the employer’s and Industry.

Other requirements
The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £7.55 per hour, from 1st April 2025. This applies to 16-18year old apprentices and those aged over 18 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. * Please note that anyone under the age of 18 will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week.
