We are looking for a Technology Manager (Product Development) to join our Materials Technology department of Component Manufacturing Technology. This role will be based in Coventry.
Duties and Responsibilities
Product Management
For the portfolio of products the role is responsible for:
1. Lead the definition of the standard products and offerings from within the Technology Group.
2. Lead the evolution, strengthening and extension of the impact of these products by ensuring the creation of material to support delivery and sales (tools, templates, case studies etc.) across industrial projects, Collaborative Research & Development, Training and Manufacturing Support Services.
Product Development
For the portfolio of products the role is responsible for:
1. Ensure the associated product development community actively engages with the industrial sectors to understand future product requirements and define development plans for emerging products.
2. Work closely with the leadership teams in the Technology Management community to understand emerging capability and ensure this aligns to current and future product requirements.
3. Lead the development of a co-ordinated plan with the industrial sectors for key clients/ product combinations.
CR&D Portfolio Development
For the portfolio of products the role is responsible for:
1. Undertake horizon-scanning of future funding opportunities and lead the prioritisation of proposal activity against these calls.
2. Develop and manage a pipeline of ideas ahead of relevant funding calls and manage dissemination of pipeline opportunities to the group.
3. Co-ordinate bid submission teams to deliver CRD bids that support the development of products.
4. Co-ordinate timely proposal delivery to the industrial sectors.
5. Support industrial sectors with technical sales activities.
6. Build long term strategic mutually beneficial relationships with key members, clients, and government stakeholders for CRD opportunities.
Person Specification
We are looking for a candidate who is/has:
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
1. A relevant degree in engineering or materials science.
2. Extensive knowledge in powder metallurgy and net shape technologies.
3. Experience working in R&D or project-based environments.
4. Demonstrable commercial skills and acumen including experience of proposing, costing, pricing and winning R+D project work from industrial organisations in a competitive environment.
5. Experience of having produced and reviewed technical reports and/or guidance materials on engineering topics.
6. Experience of working in a high-quality academic research or industrial R&D environment.
7. Actively interested in growing links with academia and industry.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience
1. Experience of managing Engineers/Scientists at equivalent levels in industry or supervising Undergraduate/MSc/PhD students.
2. Master’s or PhD in materials processing.
3. 10+ years of industrial experience.
4. A working knowledge of powder metallurgy and net shape manufacturing processes.
5. A working knowledge of machine capabilities and specifications required to process materials in a wider range of technologies to support stakeholder process development and procurement.
