Features Director Location: YOU Magazine/Mail on Sunday Headquarters – London Position: Permanent, full time, office based We are looking for a passionate and innovative Features Director to join the well-established and busy team of Britain’s best-read women’s magazine, with 1.3 million loyal readers every week. Responsible for the overall management of the talented features team of this weekly supplement, your duties will include: Commissioning freelancers and in-house writers, editing and re-writing copy where necessary. Managing the features team, cultivating the in-house writers and keeping abreast of all commissions coming in and out of the department. Regular liaising with the Editor and Deputy Editor. To produce a constant stream of brilliant, original ideas across all areas of the features section, and understanding the difference between daily news features and YOU magazine’s weekly and longer lead features. To be across all news, culture and talking points relevant to the YOU readership; come up with ideas accordingly and secure exclusive features. Managing the copy workflow, keeping subs and art informed and liaising with other departments where necessary. Reading proofs, contributing to page furniture and picture/layout treatments where relevant. Flatplanning the features section in conjunction with the Editor and Deputy Editor. Forward-planning special issues, think outside the box and come up with inventive new ideas for specials that will appeal to the YOU reader. To bring in new voices. Requirements: Extensive experience managing a features section of a newspaper or magazine, ideally a weekly supplement. Experience of managing and nurturing a team. Exemplary writer and PR contacts. Extensive commissioning and editing experience. Ability to work full time and be fully office based.
