Purpose of the Role: As a Control Systems Engineer, you will develop real-time control software for battery powered electric vehicles. You will assist in software creation and modification for the control of a variety of LV and HV devices, including the optimisation through software of high voltage powertrains.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
1. Work with Head of Whole Vehicle and Head of T+D software according to latest legislative, functional safety, cost and performance standards.
2. Re-engineer and re-architect proof-of-concept strategies so that they are suitable for use in production vehicles.
3. Provide support for in vehicle testing, powertrain testing and calibration.
4. Verify and validate control software using MIL and HIL testing.
5. Provide clear and concise documentation.
6. Contribute improvements to the software which will improve vehicle reliability, efficiency, and driving refinement.
Professional Skills:
1. Possess working knowledge of auto-coding with the MathWorks toolchain: Simulink, Stateflow and Embedded coder.
2. Possess working knowledge of C or C++ programming languages (especially for embedded applications).
3. Possess working knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow.
4. Possess working knowledge in the configuration and use of HIL systems (e.g., dSpace).
5. Possess working knowledge of automotive serial communications protocols (e.g., CAN, Flexray).
6. Possess working knowledge of automotive calibration software (e.g., Etas INCA, Vector CANape).
7. Demonstrable expertise in LV system design in automotive applications.
8. Demonstrable ability to perform root cause analysis efficiently.
9. Strong understanding of LV component design & construction (wires, connectors, insulation, shielding, etc).
10. Experience with automotive standards and communication protocols.
11. High standards for documentation and organisation.

Qualifications/Requirements:
1. Experience of developing prototype software on rapid-prototyping controllers. Pi OpenECU and GEMS preferred.
2. Working knowledge of electric motors and inverters.
3. Working knowledge of Li-ion battery cells and battery management systems.
4. Experience of developing software for safety critical automotive applications (e.g., ISO 26262).
5. Experience of scripting in MATLAB or Python.
