Job summary Applications are invited for the appointment for sub-specialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the internationally renowned department at the Birmingham Women's Hospital part of the Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will join the Maternal Fetal Medicine team and will be part of the tertiary referral service. This post is recognised for subspecialty training by the RCOG/GMC and the European Association of Perinatal Medicine/European Board and College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Candidates that fulfil essential requirements that are post-CST may also apply for this post. Candidates would ideally hold MRCOG and be in possession of a RCOG/Deanery Training Number (NTN/VTN)(or equivalent for Europe). Full registration with the GMC is essential and fluency in English is essential. Main duties of the job The programme itself follows a 'hydrid' model of training and is divided into four six month modules which forms the 'spine' of training against general training in MFM. The applicant should have entered ST5 year prior to entering the post. Although no mandatory scan training is required for entry to the post, it is desirable that trainees are independent to perform Ultrasound of fetal growth and anatomy, including experience in multiple pregnancy and early and mid-trimester scanning. To gain most from the maternal and fetal aspects of the training we recommend (it is desirable) that trainees have completed as much of the core curriculum as possible; although allowances and flexible training arrangements may be made for exceptional candidates. Even if the successful candidate has 'research exemption' all SST are expected to participate in clinical research projects facilitated through the University of Birmingham and Birmingham Women's Foundation trust R & D Department. At times during the training there will be periods when the trainee is "off service". The presence of three sub-specialty trainees enables both he/she to have a mechanism of cross cover. There will be no routine gynaecological experience during the time on the programme, other than providing emergency gynaecological cover, or in exceptional circumstances where core competencies in gynaecology are required to be met.
