Provide effective leadership, expertise and advice to teams and ensure the provision of a high-quality safe service to women and their families in line with best practice, local, regional and national guidance.
Accept operational responsibility and accountability for the services within this community service including both traditional and Continuity of Carer midwifery teams, Waterlily birthing unit and the Community Midwifery Hubs. Provide managerial and professional support to the maternity service and undertake delegated responsibility in the absence of the Matron.
Through professional leadership and role modelling the post holder will have overall responsibility for ensuring the safe, effective delivery of midwifery services in the community, midwife led birthing unit and within the Midwifery Hub.
Manage both the activity of the clinical area / hub and the team on a day-to-day basis, and manage sickness, rosters, skill mix and professional standards.
Be an expert in their field, having responsibility to ensure that the care provided in the defined areas are delivered in accordance with local and national guidelines and procedures.
Support the Matron to develop and monitor service delivery and promote a high standard of care at all times.
Manage and develop the teams of staff to ensure effective use of staff and resources, having responsibility for the teams and ensuring that there is appropriate cover for the service 7 days a week.
Predominately work Monday to Friday but will be flexible according to the needs of the service Saturday and Sunday working as needed with 0.4 WTE clinical shifts per week.
Participating in a midwifery on call service. On occasion, be asked to act up in the absence of the Matron ensuring appropriate managerial support is always available.
Ensure equity for the population with targeted care for those of ethnic minorities, part of the LGBGT communities, living in areas of social deprivation and are vulnerable within today’s society. As part of maternity services, they should display innovative project management skills in developing new services to address any such inequalities.
Establish and maintain a level of service which is equitable, evidence based and consistent with the recommendations of national guidance.
